Vintage Riviera 9" Mexicana Luncheon Plate by Homer LaughlinCirca 1940s: Homer Laughlin's Century pottery line lended itself not only to Riviera, but to many of their decal ware lines as well. Mexicana, with its cascade of southwestern pots and cacti has become the most widely known of their many decals.
Designed by Frederick Rhead and made from 1936-1945, the Riviera pattern was the first pottery line in the solid color glazes offered by the Homer Laughlin Pottery company. Riviera pre-date the better-known Fiestaware by only a few years. This pattern is a rounded square with a decidedly Art Deco flair to it. Because Riviera is a lighter weight pottery than Fiesta, the pieces tended to chip on the underside.
Condition, No chip, cracks or Breaks. Beautiful, full of color and decals are very nice
